Here's the
eighth proper album and second album with new (since 2008) singer Mollie
Israel. I’ve been a fan of this much-overlooked band ever since
meeting them and catching a show years ago, but with this album they’ve
really gelled with Mollie’s writing, as well as pushed themselves
sonically. The Cocteau Twins’ drum machine, dense reverbs and twangy
surf guitars (courtesy of Steve Masucci, instigator of many Tape Op interviews)
of past albums meet up with distorted bass tracks and impressive use of
string-like synth arrangements in this new material. I won’t tell
you what this was recorded on, as you wouldn’t believe it compared
to how great this album sounds. Mastered, with some mixing, by the legendary
Larry Alexander (interview soon) as well. (www.thelostpatrol.com)
