Lonesome Sky

New
York's "The Lost Patrol" is quite an innovative group, on their
fourth release "Lonesome Sky" they really nail their own sound.
Falling somewhere between Duane Eddy, Nancy Sinatra, Dick Dale, and The
Cranes. This is western dreampop, surfy lounge rock with more than a hint
of post-punk influence.
The opening Cup at My Krater sets the mood with a nice
mellow ballad. Some standout tracks include the slow burning Velveteen,
the moody Neon Red, the uptempo Run Wild, and Stars Collide. It must also
be mentioned that vocalist Danielle Kimak Stauss has some of the most
gorgeously soaring vocals of any modern rock outfit. Her tone perfectly
compliments this music. Equally the rest of the band is totally on the
ball and the production of this release is also top notch.
The only complaint I have (though more of an observation
than complaint) is that every song sounds quite similar. Of course that
is bound to happen when you're playing in such a niche style. I would
be interested to see what they could do with some other influences mixed
into this unique style of theirs. All in all, The Lost Patrol is certainly
worth your time, and I'm quite intrigued to see what they do next.
